Live Edge Shelves

Our handmade live edge wooden shelves bring individual grain, knots and flowing outlines to kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms. Each shelf is made to order at Rutherford Works in Stockton-on-Tees, North East England, with its edge individually shaped and its timber carefully finished.

Choose a shelf for your space

Explore Driftwood Grey, Black Ebony, Soft White and Light Oak finishes. Colour names describe the finish, not the timber species. Standard lengths run from 40–160cm; select the dimensions on each product page. Need a different length or depth? Contact us about bespoke wooden shelving before ordering.

Live edge or flat edge?

Our live edge profile is shaped in the workshop for a flowing, natural-style outline. Grain, knots, colour and edge shape vary between pieces. For a straight, clean line across your wall, explore our flat edge wooden shelves.

Plan the fitting before you order

Shelves are supplied undrilled, without brackets, screws or wall fixings. Choose supports suitable for your wall construction, shelf dimensions and intended load. Measure both the wall space and the items you want to display, and read our care and fitting guidance.

Stained and oiled by hand

We build the colour with wood stain and finish each shelf with protective oil, keeping the individual grain and knots part of the design. Meet Dave, the maker behind Rutherford Works.

Live edge shelf questions

Are these floating shelves with hidden brackets?

These are shelf-only listings, supplied undrilled without hidden brackets, screws or wall fixings. Discuss your intended fitting method with a suitable installer before choosing supports.

What makes the finish different?

Each shelf is coloured with wood stain and finished with protective oil. Driftwood Grey, Black Ebony, Soft White and Light Oak describe finish colours; Light Oak does not mean the shelf is made from oak.

Can I get a shelf for an alcove or a deeper top?

Yes, bespoke dimensions can be discussed before ordering. Send the length, depth, intended use and wall details for a quote. A deeper breakfast bar has a separately agreed specification and price.
